Brass is a metal material that is widely used by jewelry designers. Because of its color and texture, brass jewelry can be used for both modern and classic jewelry designs. Of course, as time passes the brass will gather dirt, grime, and look aged. There are some methods that you can use to clean your brass jewelry to keep it well-maintained and looking new! Check them out below!
1. Vinegar mixture for tarnished brass
What you will need:
½ cup vinegar
1 tsp. salt
½ cup flour
Directions:
1.Stir the vinegar and salt together. After mixing the two, you can then add the flour to create a paste solution.
2.Apply the paste mixture to the tarnished areas of the brass and leave it for 10-15 minutes.
3.After 10-15 minutes, wash the paste away with lukewarm water. Dry it with a clean cloth.
2. Soap solution for cleaning
What you will need:
Mild cleaning detergent
Water
Directions:
1.Rinse the brass with lukewarm water and scrub it gently with a soft cloth or brush.
2. Put the brass into the solution and leave it there for 10 minutes.
3.After 10 minutes, dry the jewelry with a clean cloth or even a toothbrush.
3. Ketchup!
It’s quite a surprise but ketchup actually works without being a harsh cleaning agent.
1.Just directly apply the ketchup to the tarnished area.
2.Then use a soft and dry cloth to remove the ketchup.
The ketchup idea for cleaning brass is great! When I was a little girl, my mom made me polish all the brass in the house (mailbox, doorknobs, etc.) with Brasso, which is still available today. However, it is very toxic, and I am glad to know that there are other safe solutions.
